Question
Hello! There are 3 cars. The first car is connected to a wall to the left by a spring with value 5k. To the right it is connected to car 2 with a spring value 3k. Car 2 is connected to car 1 with the spring mentioned and a spring parallel to the 3k one, with a value of 7k, which is connected to a wall to the left. To its right it is connected right to car 3 with a spring value of 2k. Car 3 is only connected to car 2 with the mentioned 2k spring. Car 3 is pulled to the right by a force F. What is the potential energy? (Do I just add the values for car 2 to the left, i.e. 3k+7k=10k? The system does not need to be dissolvedExplanation / Answer
1)yes you can directly add the spring constants as they are in parallel 2) potential energy will be the some of potential energies of each spring .. say the net displacement of car 2 is x1-x2 so potential energy will be 1/2*10k*(x1-x2)^2) 3) but if you want to solve it for x1 x2 and other displacements .it can only be done by solving imlicit equations u will get from .. each mass
