Question
A sled is being held at rest on a slope that makes an angle with the horizontal. After the sled is released, it slides a distance down the slope and then covers the distance along the horizontal terrain before stopping. Find the coefficient of kinetic friction between the sled and the ground, assuming that it is constant throughout the trip. Take the gravitational energy of the sled at the bottom of the slope to be zero. Which of the following energy bar charts correctly describes the energy transformation occurring in this problem? The correct answer is (A)http://i46.tinypic.com/1zp2sy0.png When the sled is on the slope and at rest...there is no kinetic energy...but there is some potential energy.... finally the sled comes back to rest again, to Kinetic energy is still ZERO...also the potential energy is said to be zero on ground....which means, all the potential energy must be lost as heat due to friction....wo it is transformet to thermal energy....
