If you put those two things together, you should understand that one can also use antibodies for visualization in electron microscopy, but the antibody that recognizes the specific protein of interest has to be coupled to a gold particle rather than a fluorophore. Explain why the use of a gold particle would work, but the use of a pigment or fluorophore would not work. Please note that I am not looking for a very technical answer-- you do not have to tell me anything textbook-y or terminology-laden in your answer. Just a general explanation. Whereas, electron microscopy is not light based. it uses metals to visualise the sample, thus, the use of gold is required.
