The new viral communication method uses small-molecule communication system to coordinate lysis-lysogeny decisions. It help virus come to conclusion of whether to replicate and lyse their host or to continue with lysogenic phase and keep the host viable. In this experiment, viruses (phages) of the spBeta produces a 6aa communication peptide. As the rate of infection increases, progeny phages measure the concentration of this peptide and continue with the lysogenic phase if the concentration level is high

In Quorum sensing, cell-population density determines the gene expression with the release of signal molecules called autoinducers.
