Question
Two identical bodies, each characterized by the same heat capacity at constant colume of Cv which is independent of temperatue, are used as high and low temperture heat "resrvoirs" for a heat engine. The bodies remain at constant volume and undergo no change of phase. Initially, their temperatures are T1 and T2 respectively; finally, as a result of the operation of the heat engine, the bodies will attain a common final temperature Tf.
a.) What is the total amount of W done by the engine? Express your answer in terms of Cv , T1 , T2 and Tf.
b.) Use arguments based on entropy considerations to derive an inequality relating Tf to the initial temperature T1 and T2.
c.) For given values of T1 and T2 what is the theoretical maximal amount of work W attainable from the engine allowed by the 2nd law of thermodynamics? Express your answer in terms of Cv , T1 and T2.
Explanation / Answer
Hi i have done the thermodynamics problem in my notebook, but i can't type it and post it here because time expired... please rate me lifesaver and i'll make sure the answer is in your inbox! i don't do this generally but i am doing this due to lack of time...
