Question

(a) (25) A site investigation was carried out for a project in Liverpool, New York (Address: 8324 Oswego Road, Liverpool, New York). You have been assigned as a geotechnical engineer for the project. The client for the project wants you to develop cross-sections (fence diagrams) alongborings TB1-T810-TB4, and show the soil profiles beneath the proposed building. The bore logs are provided where the depth of boring is in feet. The boring logs note the water levels during drilling and after the augers are removed. A key to the boring logs describes the symbols. The profile should include the existing grades, strata boundaries, and the ground water table (if applicable). Describe the distinct aspect of the soil profile 1. lb) (15) Find addtional information about this site from USGS and Soil Survey Reports. State what information seem to be useful for this project. Explanation / Answer

The present borelogs shown in the attached photogrphs indicates the stratification of the strata.

The Right hand side shows the depth of penetration and right hand side of a log shows the properties of the soil/rock.

In the present senario, in most of the bore logs the penetration rate in inch/sec or inch/min under the applied pressure/force is presented which show the relative hard ness of the soil. These harness will be proved by performing the cone penetration test to find the tip cone resistance and sleev friction.
