1. Both the observations on water and washer explains the Newton's law of inertia which states that unless application of an external motion a body at rest will remain at rest and a body in motion can not change its state by itself. In the case of water when turning left due to inertia of rest water has the tendency to remain at original state of rest and spilled from right and vice versa. Similarly when stopped abruptly water has the tendency to remain at rest and to nullify the effect water spilled from front and back.
In case of washer similarly when the card is knocked off the washer due to inertia of rest tends to remain at rest and hence falls in to the cup.
