Question

11. -2 points SerPSE9 29 P051 MI FB My Notes Ask Your To A rectangular coil consists of N (figure). 170 closely wrapped turns and has dimensions a-0.400 m and b 0.300 m. The coil is hinged along the y axis, and its plane makes an angle 0-30.0 with the x axis (a) What is the magnitude of the torque exerted on the coil by a uniform magnetic field D-0.590 T directed in the positive x direction when the current isi - 1.20 A in the direction shown? N·m (b) If you are looking downward from the positive y direction, what is the expected direction of rotation of the coil? O counterclockwise Need Help? L-Read-L Master It

Explanation / Answer

Solution)

We know, Torque through a rectangular coil= NIAB sin(theta)

Here, Number of turns, N=170

Area=0.4*0.3=0.12m^2

Theta=30 degrees

B=0.59T

I=1.2A

So, Torque=170*1.2*0.12*0.59*sin(30)

Torque=12.24 N-m (Ans)

=====

B) Direction will be counter clockwise.
