Question

For this discussion, you will consider fluid force. In your initial post to the discussion, answer the following questions:

1. If you submerge an equilateral triangle vertically in water, is there more force on it when

A: a side is right at the surface?

B: a vertex with altitude perpendicular to the surface is right at the surface?

C:a vertex with its side perpendicular to the surface is right at the surface?

Explain your answer, giving specific details about why this is the case.

2. Describe a real-life application of fluid pressure and fluid force. In what kind of situation might you need to have a good understanding of the two?

Explanation / Answer

1. if we submerge an equilateral triangle inwater, there is same pressure of watrer on both the sides of the triangle,

and hence same force acts on both sidfes of the triangle and hecne there is net 0 force onthe trianbgle

if we consider the surface tension, it acts perunit length and more the length, more is the force

A. so when a side is at the surface, ther eis surface tension acting on the triangle toop, hence making the force non zero

hence more force is in part A

2. real life application of fluid force is use of fluids in hydraulic brakes, where fluid is used to conduct force from brakes handle to the brake pads to clutch and break
