Question
ast?dep-19760286 Noed Help?Meaer n A basketboall player is standing on the floor 10.0 m from the basket as in the figure below. The height of the basket is M- 3.05 m, and he shoots the ball at an angle, -38.40, with the horizontal from a height cfh-1.90 m. 10.0 m (a) What is the acceleration of the basketball at the highest point in its trajectory? magnitude direction ( Select- m/s? (b) At what speed must the player throw the basketball so that the ball goes through the hoop without striking the backboard? m/s Need Help?Read Save Practice Another VersionExplanation / Answer
Solution)
Part a) acceleration of basketball = -g = 9.8m/s^2 directed vertically downwards (Ans)
Part b) The horizontal position of the ball=( u cos 38.4)*t
To travel 10m , time taken= 10/(u cos 48.4)= 12.76/ u
The height of the ball, H = Ho +u*t*sin(38.4)-0.5g*t^2
3.05-1.90=12.76*0.621 -0.5*9.8*162.81/u^2
1.15=7.92-797.76/u^2
6.77= 797.76/u^2
U=10.85 m/sec (Ans)
