Explanation / Answer

Part A

electric potential is a scalar quantity, which is given by:

V = kQ/R

Now net electric potential will be

Vnet = V1 + V2

Vnet = kQ1/R1 + kQ2/R2

Q1 = 1.82 uC, & Q2 = -5.97 uC

R1 = R2 = d/2 = 1.33/2 = 0.665 m

So,

Vnet = 9*10^9*1.82*10^-6/0.665 - 9*10^9*5.97*10^-6/0.665

Vnet = -56165.4 V

Part B.

Electric potential is a scalar quantity, which is given by:

V = kQ/R

Suppose at distance 'x' from q1, betwwen both charges net electric potential is zero, then

Vnet = V1 + V2 = 0

V1 = -V2

kQ1/R1 = -kQ2/R2

Q1/R1 = -Q2/R2

R1 = x, & R2 = d - x = 1.33 - x

So

1.82/x = -(-5.97)/(1.33 - x)

1.82*(1.33 - x) = 5.97*x

x = 1.82*1.33/(5.97 + 1.82)

x = 0.311 m

Electric potential is zero at x = 0.311 m
