CCO Math & Science Dept Community College of Qatar Post lab Question: 1. If frictional forces are ignored, wh kinetic energy of the balls once they reach to the bottom of the figur of motion at is the potential energy of individual balls and final e?Describe the time . 2- if the object is sphere, and its velocity is 5m/s and R 0.1m, calculate the kinetic energy of the solid sphere? Rotational kinetic energy of the object is given: the translational kinetic energy of object: and v = R KErot =Zla)2 where I =-MR2 KEtra n =-M v2 rot CM trans 2 n

Explanation / Answer

1)

The ball in each case will have the same PE at the top and same KE at te bottom.

PE is given by:

PE = mgh, so it depends on the mass of the ball and the vertical height of its position. So each case having the same ball and height have the same PE.

g = 9.8 , h = 3 and m is not given.

As there is no friction, the entire PE will be converted to KE. Thus KE = PE.
