Let A be the point on - x axis, B on + x axis and C on - y axis. D is a point on AB and is mid point of AB

We see that

(1) in triangle ADC AD = DC = l and also ADC = 90° , ACB = 90°.

(2) AY = (2) ( 0.34 ) = 0.48 m

Hence Force of repulsion on C due to A

=> F(AC) = [ 1 / (4.) ] [ 8.3 x 8.3 x 10¯¹² / (0.48)² ] N = 9 x 10 x [ 8.3 x 8.3 x 10¯¹² / (0.48)² ]

=> F(AC) = 2.68 N Along AC

Similarly F(BC) = 2.68 N Along BC

Both of these forces are equal in magnitude and at right angles to each other.. Therefore their Resultant force F will act towards DC. Such that --

F = [ 2(2.68²) ]

=> F = 2 [ 2.68 ] = 3.79 N
