Jumping spiders are the main predators of many fly species. Scientists have observed that one species of fly, Zonosemata vittigera (Z. vittigera), has dark bands on their wings that resemble the dark bands on the legs of jumping spiders. Z. vitigera wave their wings when a jumping spider approaches, and this wing waving behavior has only been observed in the presence of jumping spiders. Houseflies are also eaten by jumping spiders, but do not have wing bands or wave their wings in the presence of jumping spiders.
