Scientists conducted a study to assess the effectiveness of a new pill, HeadacheAway, to treat headaches. A group of 200 volunteers was randomly divided into two groups. One group was given a bottle containing three control pills that looked identical to HeadacheAway pills, but did not contain medication. The other group was given a bottle containing three HeadacheAway pills. Each group was instructed to take one pill every two hours at the first sign of a headache. The participants ranked the severity of their headache every 30 minutes on a scale of O to 3 with 0 being no pain, and 3 being intense pain until they recorded two zeros in a row.
