We wish to build a deck attached to a house. In order to make sure it will be strong enough we wish to check the stresses in the wood and make sure they are lower than the allowable stresses. Drawings of the planed deck are attached. The max load on the deck is assumed to be a distributed load of 60 pounds per square foot. When applied to the Floor joists this creates a distributed load of 80 pounds per linear foot, assume this load includes the self-weight of the structure.
