Question

2. (5 points) Consider conduction along an axon. When there is an action potential occurring at the beginning of the axon, what causes the triggering of an action potential a little further along the axon at the neighboring area? Include what ions move where and what allows these ions to move. 3. (5 points) In the image below, there is a neuron cell body with multiple inputs synapsing upon it. The ed inputs release glutamate while the green inputs release GABA. Explain what would happen to the action potential firing rate of this neuron if signalirg from all the green inputs stopped (The section of he text introducing neurotransmitters is helpful p.i Dendrites of postsynaptie Synaptic terminals of presynaptic Myelin sheath Cell body of Axon Axon of hillock postsynaptic neuron

Explanation / Answer

1st. Neuron cells transmit the electrical signal by propagation of action potential. Action potential is threshold voltage in the axon so that electrical signal is always transmitted along the nerve cell. Action potential passes along the axon terminal . Axon membrane contains sodium ATPase in them which passes three sodium out of the axon at intake of every two potassium ion and maintain the resting membrane potential which is -70mV. At synaptic knobs neurotransmitter is released and which diffuse into the synpatic cleft and it bind to sodium voltage gayed ion channel to open and depolarisation of membrane . Thus action potential traval and transmit the electrical signal
