Question

2. Evaluate the following energy calculation
The  total  enthalpy  (H)  is  a  property  that  results from  combining  the  internal energy (U) and flow energy (PV) for a fluid, H = U + PV.  What is the value of the  total  enthalpy  in  BTU  if  the  internal  energy  (U)  is  1103.5  BTU,  the pressure  is  85  psi  and  the  total  volume  is  5.17

Explanation / Answer

Internal Energy, U = 1103.5 BTU

Pressure, P = 85 psi

Volume, V = 5.17 ft^3

Now, PV = 85X5.17= 439.45 psi-ft3 = 439.45 x 0.185 = 81.298 BTU

( 1 psi-ft3 = 0.185 BTU)

Enthalpy, H = U + PV = 1103.5 + 81.298 = 1184.798 BTU
