This feed is 55 mol% methanol, 21 mol% ethanol, 23 mol% propanol and 1 mol% butanol. The second feed is a saturated liquid with a flow rate of 150 kmol/h. This feed is 1 mol% methanol, 3 mol% ethanol, 26 mol% propanol and 70 mol% butanol. We want to recover 99.3% of the propanol in the distillate and 99.5% of the butanol in the bottoms. Find the distillate and the bottom flow rates and the mole fractions of the distillate and the bottom products.

F1= 100 Z1=0.23; F2= 150 Z2=0.26; Xd=0.993 Xb=0.007; now, F1+F2=D+B ----1 and, F1*Z1+F2*Z2=D*Xd+B*Xb ------2 solving both we get, B=[(Z1F1+Z2F2)/Xd - (F1+F2)] / ( Xb/Xd - 1), solving which gives, B=201.79kmol/h so, D=250-B = 48.21 kmol/h
