Question

Sorry if the picture is hard to read. This is a picture of the inside of a wall where there are 4 materials (so you are looking at a top view). the top strip is 3/4" sliding hard board (k=0.094), the dark piece on the left is white pine 2"x4"(k=0.11), the piece next to the pine is R-13 Fiberglass insulation, the bottom strip is 5/8" dry wall(k=0.17).

The wall section is 94" tall, the overall width is 16". Draw the two circuits and label each resistor with the numeical value of the resistances.

The wall section on the outside is 110F and the inside of wall is 80F. What is the heat rate through the wall section? Compare the results from the two different thermal circuits.

Explanation / Answer

The units of k seem to be wrong. Pl confirm. And shall I assume k for fibreglass since it is not provided? Thanks.
