Determine the magnitude and direction of the reaction force at a 90 degree pipe

ID: 1822348 • Letter: D

Question

Determine the magnitude and direction of the reaction force at a 90 degree pipe bend that is passing a mass flow rate of 985 kg/sec. The diameter of the bend is 60 cm, and the pressure head is 10 m just upstream of the bend and 9.8 m downstream of the bend. (Assuming that the water is flowing in a positive direction a positive x-direction entering the bend and a positive y-direction leaving the bend.)

I am unable to picture what the pipe looks like given the description. Also the answer to the problem is the magnitude of the force equals 43.6 kN and theta equals 44.4 degrees (from the back of the book).
