1). Biodiversity is the existence of a variety of plant and animal species together in a variety of ecosystems. This also includes the organisms that belong to the different species or same species. The biodiversity is important because it is crucial for the food chain to occur in a regulated manner. Biodiversity increases the productivity of the ecosystem, more diversity means, more species can exist. This ensures different types of resources available for the humans. For example, among crops, different crop species provide different nutrients, different medicinal plants, etc.
Major threats to biodiversity are deforestation, industrial evolution, increased cultivation, increased usage of synthetic fertilizers, water pollution, soil pollution and air pollution. Many of the plant and animal species are at the risk of extinction due to the human activities. Also, the natural threats include calamities such as flood, earthquakes, fires, and volcanos. But the loss caused by the natural calamities is generally reversible, whereas humans cause irreversible loss.
To conserve the biodiversity, eco-friendly methods must be adapted. Deforestation should be stopped, conservation of endangered species in parks will be helpful.
