108. Phosphorus, carbon and nitrogen are very important for life processes. Phosphorus is an essential ion in cells and the energy currency is itself made up of phosphorus. Phosphorus is not found in air like carbon and nitrogen. it is concentrated in rocks and soils and is recycled through water.
Carbon is the basis of life, it supports cells both structurally and physiologically. Plants take in carbon dioxide from air, and animals consumes plant product to incorporate the carbon in their body.
Nitrogen is an important component of cells as amino acids are made from nitrogen. although nitrogen is abundantly found in the atmosphere, animals or plants can take in nitrogen directly from air. Plants are dependent on chemical and microbiological incorporation of nitrogen into soil in its soluble form such that the roots can take up the soluble nitrogenous compound from the soil.
So for all these importance of carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus in living cell, they must be properly cycled through the biotic and abiotic components of earth. Only through their proper cycling will these elements be available for the plants and animals to incorporate in their bodies.
