Question
2 parts for the same diagram:
1A) Two convex lenses (f1 = 3.2 cm, f2 = 5.02 cm) are distance d = 88.3 cm apart. Hal stands s = 47.7 cm in front of the first lens. Where should you put a screen to focus the image produced by the second lens? The answer should be given as a positive distance from Hal to the image, in centimeters.
1B) Using the same values given and the same diagram, now the screen is placed so the image produced by the second lens is focused on the screen (as in the previous problem). If the height of the image is nH: find the value of n. Give the answer as positive.
Objei Lens 1 Lens 2 3Explanation / Answer
A) f1 = 3.2 cm
p1 = 47.7 cm
1/f = 1/p1 + 1/q1
1/3.2 = 1/47.7 + 1/q1
q1 = 3.43 cm
now this image will work as object for second lens.
p2 = 88.3 - 3.43 = 84.8
f2 = 5.02 cm
1/5.02 =1/84.8 + 1/q2
q2 = 5.34 cm
screen is placed at 5.34 cm right to the second lens.
1B) m = (q2 / p2)(q1/p1) = 0.0045
