Question
Problem 24.2 Part A A converging lens with a focal length of 40 cm and a diverging lens with a focal length of -50 cm are 170 cm apart. A 2.6-cm tall object is 60 cm in front of the converging lens. Calculate the distance between the final image and the diverging lens Express your answer to two significant figures and include the appropriate units. dValue Units Submit My Answers Give Up Part B Calculate the image height. Express your answer to two significant figures and include the appropriate units h'= 1 Value Units Submit My Answers Give UpExplanation / Answer
a)
For converging lens
From thin lens fromula
1/f =1/di +1/do
1/40 =1/di +1/60
di =120 cm
For diverging lens object diatance
do =170-120=50 cm
=>-1/50 =1/di+1/50
di=-25 cm
Therefore diatance between final image and diverging lens is 25 cm
b)
since Magnification
M=(-dic/doc)(-did/dod)=(120/60)(-25/50)=-1
since M=hi/ho
hi=2.6*(-1)=-2.6 cm
image height is 2.6 cm (inverted)
