A 60.0 kg crate rests on a level floor at a shipping dock. The coefficients of static and kinetic friction are 0.760 and 0.410, respectively. What horizontal pushing force is required (a) just start the crate moving, (b) slide the crate across the dock at a consta speed? 10. A 44 kg chandelier is suspended 1.5 m below a ceiling by three wires, each of which has the same tension and the same length of 2.0 m (see the drawing). Find the tension in each wire. 2.0 2

Explanation / Answer

Friction force = coefficient of friction x normal force

a) Ff = 0.760(60)(9.8) = 447 N

b) Fk = 0.410(60)(9.8) = 241 N
