Question

3. Answer questiosn the following questions based on the graph below: Position(m) (1s,2m) (2s,2m) (3s, 1m) Time(s) (a) Explain in words the motion described in the graph: (b) Which time period has the largest velocity? i. 0 to 1 seconds ii. 1 to 2 seconds ii. 2 to 3 seconds Experiment 1. Which of the following is(are) true for a Vernier caliper? (a) You ALWAYS get 4 significant figures (b) You ALWAYS get 3 significant figures (c) The uncertainty of the Vernier caliper is ± 0.01 cm (d) The uncertainty of the Vernier caliper is ± 0.02 cm 2. Which of the following is(are) true for a meter stick? (a) You ALWAYS get 4 significant figures (b) You ALWAYS get 3 significant figures (c) The uncertainty of the meter stick is ± 0.01 cm (d) The uncertainty of the meter stick is ± 0.02 cm 3. What is(are) the main advantage(s) of using the Vernier Caliper over the meter stick in length measure- ment? (a) Smaller uncertainty (b) It allows for measurements of very larger objects (c) Jaws that ease measurement (d) Depth probe

Explanation / Answer

3) a.The graph is showed between distance and time below details we can observe from the graph i.e

i). Till first turning point the motion of the object indicated by the straight line which is started from the origin and having constant slope it means the object is started from the rest and it is moving with uniform velocity (There is no acceleration for the object).

ii). From the first turning point to second turning point the motion of the object is represented by the straight line which is horizontal to the x-axis i.e there is no slope for the line ( slope is zero ) it means the object is in rest for 1 second and the velocity of the object in this duration is zero.

iii). From the second turning point to the end point the motion of the object indicated by the straight line which is having the negative slope it means the object is moving in reverse direction (i.e the object is moving negative direction of the distance) and the velocity of the object in this duration is negative.

b) The object is covered maximum distance in the period 0s to 1s so the velocity in this period will be maximum.

Experiment :

1.By using Vernier caliper we can measure the upto 3 significant figure and uncertainity of the Vernier caliper is

± 0.01cm , so the correct answers are

option b & c

2.Uncertainity of the meterscale is ± 0.02cm because the lowest measurable unit in meter scale is 1mm
