Question
please answer this physics 2 problem. thank you!
Three batteries and four resistors are connected in a circuit as shown in the figure below. (Let e, 82 48s 0v, and 8 20v Due to the nature of this problem, do not use rounded intermediate values in your calculation:s including answers submitted in WebAssign.) :455.0V 120.0 50,012 90.011 175.012 (a) What is the current in each of the resistors? "2000 directionSelect 150.0 magnitude '90.0 magnitude 17500 magnitude direction -Select direction Select direction Select (b) What is the potential difference across the 175-Q resistor?Explanation / Answer
a)Let the current through 120Ohms be I1, current through 50 Ohms be I2,current through 90Ohms be I3 and current through 175 Ohms be I4 all flowing in the upwards direction in the corresponding resistors.
The problem can be solved using Kirchhoff's loop rule:
Left Loop :
68+455+50I2-120I1=0
Or, 120I1-50I2=523..(i)
Middle loop :
-455-216+90I3-50I2=0
Or, 50I2-90I3 = -671....(ii)
Right loop:
216+175I4-90I3=0
Or, 90I3-175I4=216...(iii)
Junction rule :
I1+I2+I3+I4=0...(iv)
Solving equations (i) through (iv),we get
I1=1.7 amperes
I2=-6.38 amperes(negative value means current is flowing in direction opposite to assumption)
I3=3.91 amperes
I4=0.78 amperes
b)potential difference across 175 Ohms = I4*175=135.8 Volts
