Since the only force is acting is the frictional force, so the block will stop when it has no further energy to over come the frictional forces.
from conservation of energy
KE = Work done by the frictioanl forces
1/2 m v^2 = Ff d
d = 1/2 m v^2/Ff
d = 0.5 x 8 x 6^2/12 = 12 m
Hence, the block travels d = 12 m before it stops.
