Question

As celebration for the end of the lab practical, I, Ruth and Rita decided to go up the main stair well to the library on the tenth floor. Ruth ran up the stairs, crumbling in exhaustion at floor nine. I went up the stairs briskly and was breathing heavily for about 5 mins afterwards. Rita walked up the stairs slowly singing all the way [in other words she was not out of breath]. Based on the above information, describe the differences in the cellular respiration events that were happening in each person. Why was I still short of breath for 5 mins afterwards? [Besides I am out of shape. Give a scientific explanation] If I would have eaten a snickers bar [great source of glucose] right after doing the stairs, would I have stopped breathing heavily sooner? Why or why not? The next day Ruth and I have soreness in our leg muscles. Explain why.

Explanation / Answer

According to the above question posed, The cellular respiration is more dependent on the situation, when our muscle is having more work then there will be greater ATP turnover. When we are sleeping, our metabolic processes will much lower rate as compared to the rate in the middle slow moving run. So, when we give more work to our muclue the breathing is more and when same work is done in slower manner the cellular bresting will be different fashion.

The soreness in your legs are because the amount of work that the above persons done are the same. but the way it was done getting differed. the effort taken will create a soreness in the legs.

By chance if you have taken the glucose then the celluar respiration will be in increase level of the oxygen were the glucose is oxdized and carbon di oxide is reduced.

Below is the equation of the glucose range of reaction

C6H12O6(glucose) + 6O2(oxygen) --- > 6CO2(Carbon di oxide) + H2O(Water)

so, 36 to 38 ATP can be produced from the redox reaction in oxidative phosphorylation
