Question
I am not too sure what the answer can be for this microbiology question.
Adherence of phagocytic cells to an infectious agent can be stimulated by all of the following except,
A) the binding of the complement proteins to antibodies bound to antigen on the cell surface of a pathogen
B) The production of interferons by virally infected cells
C) The binding of IgM antibodies to antigens expressed on the surface of infectious agents
D) The binding of IgG antibodies to antigens on the cell surface of a pathogen
E) Agglutination of infectious agents by the binding of antibodies.
I assume it's B but I can't really tell which makes most sense and why.
Explanation / Answer
When the antigens enter into the body the antibody dependent cell cytotoxicity cells which present cells for the phagocytosis, the phagocytosis cells adhere to the infectious agents by the IgM antibody binded to the receptor, when agent enters into the body IgM will bind upon phagocytosis triggers and inactivates the infectious agent.
Answer is C
The binding of IgM antibodies to antigens expressed on the surface of infectious agents
