Question
A 9.3 resistor and a6.5 resistor are connected inseries with a power supply. (a) The voltage drop across the 6.5 resistor is measured to be15 V. Find the voltage output of thepower supply.(b) The two resistors are connected in parallel across a powersupply, and the current through the 9.3 resistor is found to be 0.25 A. Findthe voltage setting of the power supply.
(a) The voltage drop across the 6.5 resistor is measured to be15 V. Find the voltage output of thepower supply.
(b) The two resistors are connected in parallel across a powersupply, and the current through the 9.3 resistor is found to be 0.25 A. Findthe voltage setting of the power supply.
Explanation / Answer
The current through the resistors is II = V/R = 15/6.5 =2.307amp
Since it is the same through the other resistor
V = 9.3(2.307) =21.46volts
So the total voltage across the two resistors is the sum ofthe two voltages
V= 21.46 +2.307 = 23.76volts
b)
V = R I = 9.3 x 0.25 =2.325 volts
Since the voltage iscommon to the resistors in parallel this is the voltage on thepower supply
