Every year about 1 million people are diagnosed with cancer. There are many kinds of cancers and many different causes for the disease. Behaviors such as unhealthy diet, smoking, over exposure to sun, use of certain chemicals (pesticides, herbicides, cleaning solvents, paints) are known to increase rates of cancer. Every year hundreds of millions of dollars are spent trying to find cures for cancer, but much less is spent education people about the dangers of certain lifestyles or helping them make necessary changes. Why do you think this is so? Should more be done to curtail people's smoking, drinking, and production and use of carcinogenic chemicals? Should our society do more to make people live more healthy lifestyles? Defend your answers. (350 word minimum)

The saying, "Prevention is better than cure" fits to all health issues of people. Yes, creating awarness among the people is foremost important to prevent cancer. Creating awarness about all aspects of the cancer is important which includes educating people about healthy lifestyle and healthy eating habits, make people understand the causes of cancer and about carcinogens or harmful chemicals used by people in day to day life.
Hundreds of millions of dollars are spent for research and drug development but to create awarness not much effort is taken. People cannot spend time to understand everything about cancer on their own and also they dont understand the language of medical terms or research. It is the duty of everyone who is involved in cancer treatment and research and even the duty of students to help people know what is cancer and how unhealthy lifestyle affects them largely. Awarness should be in people's language in the sense that they can easily understand and also should reach all the people in the world by local or regional languages spoken across the world.
Awarness not only about cancer but should include about all major diseases. A book about major life threatening diseases can help better which explains causes, treatment, prevention and that can be made available to all people like life-saving guide.
It is the duty of the government to eliminate the carcinogens or harmful chemicals from the market or even stop the production of such chemicals and also to spend more for creating awarness.
Research, drug development and treatments are becoming powerful money markets that why awarness is being given less importance.
