Question
An electron enters a region of magnetic field of magnitude0.016 T, traveling perpendicular to thelinear boundary of the region. The direction of the field isperpendicular to the velocity of the electron.(a) Determine the time it takes for theelectron to leave the "field-filled" region, noting that its pathis a semicircle. ________________ns
(b) Find the kinetic energy of the electron if the radius of itssemicircular path is 2.20 cm.

Explanation / Answer
Hi, For the second part we should have use the relativistic formula given by k = (-1)mc2 =1/[1-2] = v/c = (6.2*107m/s)/(3*108m/s) =0.207 Then = 1/[1-(0.207)2] =1.022 Then K=(1.022-1)(9.1*10-31kg)(3*108m/s)2 = (1.8018*10-15J)/(1.6*10-16J/keV) =11.26keV Hope this help you
