Question

A child is on a swing whose 3.2 mlong chains make a maximum angle of 38° with the vertical. What is the child's maximumspeed?
m/s
A runaway truck lane heads uphill at 30° to thehorizontal. If a 16200 kg truck goes outof control and enters the lane going 112km/h, how far along the ramp does it go? Neglect friction.

Explanation / Answer

Given that the length fo thesting is L = 3.2m The verticle angle is =380
The maximum speed attains at the bottom of theswing. Apply conservation of energy atthe bottom and the at angle then
(1/2)mV2 = mgh

(1/2)mV2 = mg(L -Lcos)

V2 = 2g(L -Lcos)

V = ( 2g(L -Lcos) )1/2

   = 16.14 m/s
