Question

The pumping test from a confined aquifer yielded the following results. Pumping rate = 0.303 m3/min, h1 = 2.44 m, h2 = 1.52 m, r1 = 18.3 m, r2 = 9.15 m, thickness of the aquifer = 3.05 m. Determine the magnitude of permeability of the permeable layer in cm/sec. [Ans: 1.9 cm/sec] The pumping test from a confined aquifer yielded the following results. [Ans: 1.9 cm/sec]

Explanation / Answer

Rate of pumping through confined aquifer = 0.303 m3/min = 0.00505 m3/s

Assuming uniform steady flow through confined aquifer and applying theims equation :

Q= (2?KD(h1-h2))/(ln(r1/r2)

Thus permiability K can be determined by substituting values in above equation and

K= 1.985*10^-4 m/s or 1.985*10^-2 cm/s
