3) Depicted below is an arrangement of two thin lenses and anobject: a) Label the picture so as to identity the incident-light sideand refracted-light side for each lens. b)If the object on the left (the arrow) is very far away andlens 1 is a separated by 4cm, given that the image due lens 1 ? Besure to specify this image's distance from lens 1 and state whetherthis distance is to the left or right of the lens 1. c) If lens 2 also a converging lens with f=10cm, and lens 1and 2 are separated by 4cm, given that the image due lens 1 servesas the object for the lens 2, locate the final image due to thissystem of lenses. Be sure to specify this fianl image's distancefrom lens 2 and state whether this distance is to the left or rightof lens 2. d)State, with reasons, whether the final image is upright orinverted. Hint: Refer to an appropriate HW problem and consider thesign on the expression for the total magnification to decide.Explanation / Answer
a) you didn't provide any information about lenses. That iswhy i cannor write anything for that part. Are you sure that youwrote everything given in th original question? b) you didn't mention whether lenses are divergind orconverging. ( or at least lens 1?? ) if lens 1 is converging, since object is very far away from the lens, the image willbe located at the focus point. it is on the rigth of the lens1. ifit is diverging it is gonna be again on the focal point butthat time on the left side. c) you didn't give any information abour the focal lengh oflens1, i think you may not have written everthign given in thequestion. Anyway i assume it is F and solving the rest of thequestion. Besides in part c you write " If lens 2 also aconverging lens" => that means lens 1 was converging???you did not mention that before. anyway i assume it isconverging. Rays coming from very far will be located on F on the rightside of Lens 1, so it is going to be 4-F cm left of the lens2. now it is object for lens 2. lets apply lens equation. 1/object + 1/image = 1/f so: 1/ (4-F) + 1/image = 1/10 solve for image: image = 10/ (F+6) and on theright of the lens 2 d) it should be uprigth, not invertedRelated Questions
