I am stuck on a problem assigned for homework: Starting from rest, a 88-kgfirefighter slides down a fire pole. The average frictional forceexerted on him by the pole has a magnitude of 800 N, and his speed at the bottom of the pole is3.0 m/s. How far did he slide down thepole? This is very similar to problem 52 in chapter 6, but it is notworked. I am confused on how to find Wnc using 800 N. I know I mustuse the work-energy theorem to solve the problem and that work isforce multiplied by length. I just cant seem to figure out Wncbecause the length is the missing part of the problem.
