Question

A young woman on a skateboard is pulled by a rope attached toa bicycle. The velocity of the skateboarder is v=(4.6 m/s)x and the force exerted on her by the ropeis F = (17 N)x + (12 N)y.
a) find the work done on the skateboarder by the rope in 30seconds b) Assuming the velocity of the bike is the same as that ofthe skateboarder, find the work the rope does on the bicycle in 30seconds. Explanation / Answer

force F = 17 x + 12 y velocity v = 4.6 x power P = dot product of force and velocity               = ( 17 * 4.6 ) = 78.2 watt So, work done in 30 s is   W = P * t                                             = 78.2 * 30 = 2346 J (b). Both are moves with same velocity .So, force onrope F = 17 N x + 12 N y Therefore work done = 2346 J
