Question
A large cargo platform is lifted by an air-filled piston-cylinder device. In the lowered state the cylinder air pressure supports the piston and cargo. Most of the air is contained in a high-pressure reservoir at 2222 kPa. During the slow lift, air is slowly released from the reservoir into the cylinder. Friction is negligible so the cylinder pressure is constant. The slow lift allows sufficient heat transfer to maintain a constant air temperature of 333 K. At the completion of the lift the pressure in the cylinder and reservoir are equal. Use the ideal gas approximation. Atm pressure = 100 kPa.
GIVEN: Initial cylinder volume = 2.00 m^3
Initial reservoir volume = 1.11 m^3
piston area = 4.44 m^2
piston & cargo weight = 666 kN
