Question
Look again at the example that explained heat diffusion that we did in the first lecture. Given the room divided in two halves by an invisible wall. On the left side are 10 persons with $5 each in their pocket. On the right side, there are 10 persons with $3 each. If 5 persons crossed from right to left, and 5 persons crossed from left to right at the same time, then each side paused and took all the money available to divide it out equally on that side of the room, how much does each person on the left and right side have now? Do the same thing again with these new amounts of money. How much does each person on each side have after another exchange? Do the same one more time. Look at the pattern and tell me what you think is going to happen at the end if you keep doing this. What's the analogy with heat diffusion?Explanation / Answer
>> After First Exchange
>> On left side, 5 persons have $5 and other 5 persons have $3 ( who came from other side)
>> So, total money is:- 5*5 + 5*3 = 40$ and total students are;- 10
>> SO, average a student gets 40/10 = 4$
>> On Right SIde,
>> Total money is ;- 5*3 + 5*5 = 40$ and total students are;- 10
>> So, average a student gets 40/10 = 4$
>> Now, after 2nd exchange
>> On Left Side
>>
>> So, total money is:- 5*4 + 5*4 = 40$ and total students are;- 10
>> So, average a student gets 40/10 = 4$
>> On Right SIde,
>> Total money is ;- 5*4 + 5*4 = 40$ and total students are;- 10
>> So, average a student gets 40/10 = 4$
>> So, now the each person will have an equal amount, i.e. 4$
>> SImilarly in heat diffusion, the heat transfer from the region having high heat content to region having low heat content until temperature is uniform in whole region.
