Question
Step3: Test design. For each block that is marked with a ü can be the problem with the motor symptom “ The motor has an electro-mechanical brake. When the controller sends a signal, the brake will engage, thus stopping the motor. While at rest, a user requested the motor to move CW via the controller, but the motor did not have any motion” design two tests to test out whether the block is the cause of the problem. When you write your test, a) describe what block you are testing; b) describe under what condition the test is to be set up. For example, “Disconnect all connections between the controller and the driver. Turn on the controller and command the controller to move the motor to rotate CW ” c) describe what you check or measure in the test. For example “Use a multimeter to measure the voltage between the Dir lead and its Ground lead of the controller output.” or in a separate example: “After I set up my test condition above, I will watch to see if the motor shaft starts to move.” d) List the possible outcomes of your tests, and describe for each outcome, whether the block you are testing is at fault. For example “Outcome1: if the motor shaft starts to move, then the brake is at fault; Outcome 2: if it does not move, the block is not at fault” Do this for all potential culprit blocks. But only write down in this report tests for 4 blocks.
note the EMO is the emergency off system which may be at fault.
Explanation / Answer
1 - Brakes Block:
Disengage the brakes block completely, i.e physicsl connection to the motor an with controller (via wires). Now send the command from controller to ceck if the motor moves.
outcome 1: motor does not move = brakes block has nothing to do with the fault
outcome 2: motor starts to move
Do: connect the brakes block to controller but not to the motor and then send command via controller to move motor
Check 1: is the motor moving ? Yes = physical connection of brakes block to the motor of is faulty
No = physical connection of brakes block to the motor is not faulty
Do: connect the brakes block to the motor but not the wires of motor to the ontroller
Check: is the motor moving ? Yes = connection of brakes block to the controller is faulty
No = connection of brakes block to the controller is not faulty
2 - EMO
Disengage EMO. send command from controller to the motor to move it.
Check 1: Is the motor moving ? Yes = EMO is faulty
No = EMO isn't the problem
