Question
ADCP Flow Measurements
We measured a total Clear Creek discharge of 160 cubic feet per second (cfs) at the USGS stream gaging location near Oxford, Iowa using the Sontek M9 RiverSurveyor ADCP.
See Tony's screen shots from the M9 software below.
· a. How well does our measured discharge compare with the USGS estimates published on their web page? Be sure to look at USGS data from the time during which our measurement was made.
· b. What factors related to the measurement locations and methodologies do you feel may contribute to the differences?
c. What changes would you recommend to improve our measurement?

a. As per the USGS data, on 18th may at 2.45 pm the discharge was 148 cps as against the measured value of 160 cps using the Sontek M9 RiverSurveyor ADCP. The reading shows 7.5 % error in the actual reading of discharge.
b. The differences in the accurate measurements of the discharge may be credited for the wind speed and the river water velocity. Also the amount the duration of the measurement is small. The area of the curve taken for the calculation is alos not accurately measured.
c. Proper arrangements and necessary corrections must be applied for the factors influencing the measurements of discharge as discussed above.
