a. since they are in parallel, they must have the same voltage across them. 4.5 A * 30 Ohms = 135V now find the current. 135V/40 ohms = 3.375 A b. the 6,7, and 3 ohm resistors are in series on the right side. they can be combined to one resistor of 16ohms. now that 16 ohm is in parallel with the 8 ohm resistor. these two can be simplified to one 5.33ohm resistor. this 5.33 is in series with the 4 ohm, giving us 9.33 ohms the 9.33 ohm resistor is in parallel with the 10 ohm. that becomes 4.83. this 4.83 is now in series with the 3 ohm resistor, so the net resistance is 7.83 ohms
