Question
I have been trying to solve this problem for hours now, but i am STUCK! would really appreciate it if I can get help!
A continuous spectrum is projected normally into a plastic plate coated with lacquer. By reflection, the spectrum is seen to have only two dark bands in the visible spectrum. One centered at 400nm and the other at 600nm. The index of the plastic is 1.40 and the lacquer is 1.50. a) find the thickness of the lacquer film. b) Which wavelengtgh in the visible spectrum will be most strongly reflected?
Explanation / Answer
thik ness of the lacquer t = /4 = 600 nm / 4 (1.5)
= 100 nm
average of two = 1+ 2 /2 = 400nm + 600nm = 500nm
thus, wavelengtgh in the visible spectrum will be most strongly reflected is 500 nm
