Question
A steel paper clip is bent by a force of 10.4 N exerted on it through a distance of 4.80 cm. By how much does the temperature of the midsection of the paper clip increase if all the energy goes into the internal energy of this section, which has a mass of 0.104 g? I need this in CI think you use 2100 for steel in this problem, I think. PLEASE HELP. No one has gotten this correct so far. If you do this, could you please stand by and check your email so I can submit the answer and if it's wrong I get back to you? Please
Explanation / Answer
The amount of work done Q = 10.4(N)*0.048(m)
= 0.5(J)
steel has a specific heat S = 0.49 kJ/kgK = 0.49 J/g K
Mass m = 0.104 g
So change in internal energy = Change in Temperature T = Q/mS
= [ 0.5(J)*/0.104(g)]/0.49(j/gK)
= 9.811K
