Question

Figure 4-24^

The only good use of a fruitcake is in catapult practice. Curve 1 in Fig. 4-24 gives the height y of a catapulted fruitcake versus the angle between its velocity vector and its acceleration vector during flight.

a. Which of the lettered points on that curve corresponds to the landing of the fruitcake on the ground? A or B?

b. Curve 2 is a similar plot for the same launch speed but for a different launch angle. Does the fruitcake now land farther away or closer to the launch point? Closer or Farther?

Figure 4-24^ The only good use of a fruitcake is in catapult practice. Curve 1 in Fig. 4-24 gives the height y of a catapulted fruitcake versus the angle theta between its velocity vector and its acceleration vector during flight. a. Which of the lettered points on that curve corresponds to the landing of the fruitcake on the ground? A or B? b. Curve 2 is a similar plot for the same launch speed but for a different launch angle. Does the fruitcake now land farther away or closer to the launch point? Closer or Farther?

Explanation / Answer

From the given figure the curves represents

the vertical displacements versus time

(a) The position indicate the landing of the fruitcake on the ground

is at B, here A is the lanching positon

(b)The curve 2 is similar to the curve 1

from the figure it moves more vertical height than curve 1

so the angle should be more i.e., nearer to the 90deg

then the fruitcake now land closer to the launch point.
