Question
Based on all the graphical information
Now I know the answer is D, not enough info. My question is why couldn't you tell where they meet? If it is a VT graph, then the displacement is the area under the graph. Wouldn't the place where they meet be the point where the area under each graph is the same. The graph doesn't specify where each starts, are we to assume that this is a graph of the same car, or two different cars?
Thanks
Please don't answer if you don't know what you are doing.
Thanks.
Figure 2-2
Based on all the graphical information
they meet at the same position at t = 8 s. they will meet at the same position, at t = 10 s. they will never meet at the same position. not enough information is given to decide if they meet.Explanation / Answer
(slope means acceleration) You do not know the slopes of the graphs, and therefore you cannot determine is they will end at the same place. if you are given that one slope is the negative of the other slope, then you can determine by algebra that they will end up in the same place. also, you are given where they start, (0,5) and (0,-5), but you aren't given the ending point (0,8), only (?,8). you are unable to solve for ? in any way whatsoever. the two points (0,8) and (0,10) are only there to mislead you. you need two points to find a line, and you are only given one in each case, making there be not enough information.
