An electric motor self heats 15degree C above ambient temperature when operating steadily. If the ambient temperature is 70 degrees F, what is the perating temperature of the motor in Fahrenheit? I have worked this out. First I changed 15 degree C to F = 59 degree F Then added 59Degree F + 70 degree F = 129 degree F ( the operating temperature) The book gives the answer as 97 degree F What?! 15 degree C is NOT the actual temperature, but the temperature difference, we use DeltaT in C so DeltaT in C = 15 convert it to F F = 9C/5 + 32 DeltaT in F = Delta(9C/5) + Delta(32) = 9*(DeltaT in C)/5 + 0 so DeltaT in F = 9*15/5 = 27 now 70 F + 27 F = 97 F so DT in F = D
