Question

A particular coil has a resistance of 1.5 ohms. With a current of6A in this coil the magnetic flux is 30 Wb. A) What is the inductance of the coil? B) If a 6V emf source were attached to it, how long would ittake for the current to rise from 0 to 2A?
I am not sure how to manipulate the formulas to find theinductance without number of turns, and where to useresistance. A) What is the inductance of the coil? B) If a 6V emf source were attached to it, how long would ittake for the current to rise from 0 to 2A?

Explanation / Answer

A) Inductance of the coil L = N / i   = 1 * 30 / 6= 5.0 Henry B) we know that           = - Ldi /dt ==> dt = L di /            = 5.0 * (2 - 0) / 6            = 1.666 sec
